Normandie Impressionniste, initiated by Laurent Fabius in 2010, is a cultural and educational event which also attracts tourists.
A non-profit organisation, the “Groupement d'Intérêt Public” is supported by the Ministry for Culture and Communication, the Métropole Rouen Normandie, the Normandy region, and the Seine-Maritime and Eure departments and the municipalities of Rouen, Caen and Le Havre.
The Normandie Impressionniste festival pays tribute to Impressionnisme throughout Normandy every three years !
The biggest event of its kind in France, this multi-disciplinary programme is an opportunity for the general public to discover the exceptional heritage and all the creativity of the Impressionist movement’s birthplace.
The festival celebrates Impressionism in all its forms. Painting, contemporary art, music, film, theatre, dance, photography, literature, conferences, sound and light, lunches on the grass, open-air dances... the Normandie Impressionniste festival is a diversified programme, open to all and to all types of artistic expression.
Many educational projects are organised with schools for all levels. Artistic workshops, visits, art history lessons...a multitude of projects to introduce students to this great pictorial movement and encourage them to appreciate and re-interpret it.
And finally, the Normandie Impressionniste festival is a festive and sociable event, open to all. Reminders of the Impressionist painters appreciation for Normandy scenery: projections on monuments, firework shows, Seine cruises and crossings, lunches on the grass, open-air balls, Impressionist itineraries are also on the programme, making it a mainstream and festive event, and a great tourist attraction.
