La Colombe - Niemeyer

The white bird takes flight... The year 2015 began by a concert masterfully conducted by Jean-Claude Casadesus to mark the reopening of a newly restored Volcan. It ended with the opening of the Niemeyer library, an incredible cultural centre, recognised by the entire press. This area provides inhabitants, members and those interested with an unoccupied place, closed off with boundaries...A Colombe hides, preparing for its flight which almost coincides with Christmas 2016. Although the library does provide an eating/relaxation area, the City of Le Havre would like to be able to offer the people of Le Havre with a genuine eating establishment on the site, for which it has issued a call for proposals. This motivated Pénélope Virag, with her success (All in bagels) and presence within the library, imagining a new concept which fuses cuisine and culture. In the summer of 2015, the project took shape, a family approach, led by a duo. Pénélope looked for service providers, recruited the teams and developed a web application allowing clients to order from their tables, her sister, Vanessa, an interior designer drew up plans, chose the colours and the artist in charge of the 15 m fresco inside the restaurant. Why was this place named Colombe? A discreet tribute to Oscar Niemeyer and to the shape of the site. Looking down on the site from a height, it looks like the stylised silhouette of the bird, symbol of peace. Vanessa (Vanessa Virag Art&Design) hired an Artist-Worker to decorate the walls. Master of the two-hand pochoir, which he has been spreading since 2005 with the WCA (Working Class Artists) Group, on the walls of cities worldwide, this spray virtuoso reinterprets the works of the painter, Maurice Denis (important to the Virag family), bestowing new dimensions based on urban culture. How is this a new concept? A connected canteen at lunch time! A modern and chic setting, online ordering and tray service, guaranteeing speed and a friendly atmosphere. In the evening, a cultural restaurant where artists and members of the Volcan can meet the general public within a cosy and trendy place. An open setting: singers, dancers, narrators, groups and solo artists, the Colombe Niemeyer opens its doors to all artists who want to freely express themselves. Chef, Christophe Escurat, offers simple cuisine with global influences (do not forget that Le Havre is a city-port) with attention to details where products are valued and used in compliance with the seasons. The food produce is carefully selected in order to offer clients freshness and quality which only local partners are able to offer. The succinct yet varied menu changes regularly.
