Newsletter # 15 - summer 2010

Abundance  and variety define the summer programme in Le Havre. Music, street shows, exhibitions, water sport events are indeed the mainstays  of a summer announced as very lively.

From the terraces of the beach to the  hanging gardens dominating the sea and estuary, programming and events are delocalized in the four corners of a city eclectic and opened on the world. This will be thus  easy to make a "Le Havre New York" on foot through the Roger Schall’s photographs of  the legendary ocean liner "Normandie”, or to fall into  the intimacy of the Degas' studio at the Malraux Museum. The music will not be the least in this cultural abundance. Finally, the 5th anniversary of the classification of the City at the World heritage will allow a  new spotlight on Perret and his work.

But this summer, major appointments remain nautical with the race ” la Solitaire du Figaro” and the French championship “Voile Espoir” (youth sailing race) … the  composition of the participants to these competitions is high level and of not to doubt, it should attract many visitors on pontoons.

Degas unseen at Malraux Museum

-- The Degas painting from the Senn donation --

Until September 19th

The Malraux museum offers us the second part of the study of the funds of drawings resulting from the SENN-Foulds donation.

After Henri-Edmond Cross’ graphic works, the cymas of the museum welcome the masterpieces of one of the greatest artists of the Impressionist  movement: Edgar Degas.

The Malraux Museum confronts its 47 drawings by Edgar Degas to five youth drawings resulting from private collections and fifteen works lent by the Musée d'Orsay.

The public can discover in particular one of the first preparatory pastels executed by Degas: Sémiramis building Babylon. Acquired by Olivier Senn; it  was given to the Musée d'Orsay by his son, Edouard Senn, in memory of his father.
