Newsletter # 11 - SPRING 2010

Le Havre 2010 will be rich and diverse , twice impressive at the Malraux Museum, nautical with the departure of the Figaro race and the French championships, transatlantic on the beach in homage to the passenger ship Normandy, oriental and " bosphorienne " at the Shipowner's House and at the Priory of Graville this new touristic year has nothing to envy to her predecessors.

Degas paintings of the Senn - Foulds donation --

After the presentation of the donation in general, the Malraux Museum casts a glance on the graphic works among which the set of 47 Degas, acquired by the collector on the occasion of the dispersal of the studio of the artist.

Essentially early works, preparatory drawings for the big historic compositions, the exhibition organized by the Malraux museum will confront these 47 works to others coming from the Musée d'Orsay collection.

-- The Magic of the Bosphorus --

Exhibition at the Priory of Graville and Shipowner's house.

The oriental dream appears at the XVIIIth century, at the occasion of the coming of the first Turkish embassy in France, subject of inspiration for the artists, the commentators of the splendors of this moment of history and of diplomacy.

Other theme, other magic, Bosphorus, its strait, its landscapes and in the background elegant and fascinating draws an outline of Constantinople.

Two historic sites: the Shipowner's house and Priory of Graville to evoke this Bosphorus, the fashion of "turqueries" and the universe of the consuls and the viziers, an exhibition of exception gathering paintings, objects, tissues, books, parts, plays of furniture.

-- Nautical Le Havre --

From June, 2010

Nautical is the vocation of le Havre. The term conjuges business and containers as well as sailing. Isn't it the SRH which is the elegant dean of the national nautical societies ?

In the Transatlantic race Jacques Vabre of October, succeed Normandy Sailing Week from 03 till 06 June, departure at the end of July of the Figaro race and the French championships . Undoubtedly sails are going to be inflated.

-- Pictures exhibition : Normandy inaugural journey --

The sides of Le Havre huts of beach which were used during the summer 2009 for the exhibition of photos " the Visitors of Le Havre ", will be dressed again this year by Roger Schall's pictures, talented witness in 1935 of the inaugural journey of the legendary passenger ship Normandy.

A prestigious crossing from Le Havre to New York among which the writer Colette or still Blaise Cendras were noticed reporters.

Translated into 5 languages (UK/DE/IT/SP/NL),

www.abbaye-montivilliers.fr offers several entries corresponding to the various public.

The family public is invited in a virtual discovery but also to amuse by means of interactive games and goodies. The news section shows the calendar of the animations scheduled in the abbey.
